Barbara Hays

May 13,1933 ~ January 30, 2014

Barbara Lillian O'Connor Hays was born on May 13, 1933 in Superior, Wisconsin to William J. (Mike) and Lillian Mae Johnson O'Connor.

Barbara has gone to be with Jesus this day January 30, 2014, where she will rejoin her loving husband of 51 years, Earl E (Tommy) Hays who preceded in death on Dec. 21, 2007.

Barbara and Tommy met in California and were united in marriage on Dec 03, 1956 in Tijuana, Mexico.

They made their home initially in Glendale, California, but ended up living in several locations including Caldwell, Ks, Burbank, Ca, Hays, Ks, Sun Valley, Ca, N Hollywood, Ca. and Prescott, AZ. In 1970 they moved back to Caldwell, Ks. which was Tom’s home town, and finally stayed put.

Barbara will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister and Grandmother. (and Green Bay Packers Fan)

She always had a great love for animals. In her earlier years she was an avid horsewomen and had many memories of her beloved horse Rebel. She sported a scar on her rear "cheek" where he bit her trying to get the peanut butter sandwich she had for him in her back pocket. He just couldn't wait!

She and Tommy also loved raising several breeds of dogs and showed pigeons for many years.

Barbara had many adventures growing up, ranging from exercising horses for the Burbank Studios as a teenager, which include Tonto's horse from the original "Lone Ranger" series, to her and her sister, Pat accidentally (kind of) letting the elephant at the Duluth Zoo out of its enclosure after sneaking in after hours. She and her sister Pat were quite a mischievous pair, once even getting in trouble for releasing all the dogs from the local dog pound.

Barbara never learned to drive a car, but on one occasion tried to take her children to school on a snowy day in Caldwell. They didn't make it, but her brother in-law Howard Hudson, saved the day and got them safely there. Years later, she did manage to drive her daughter Robin around on her paper route on a few stormy days. (The car was never the same.)

Barbara is survived by her two children, daughter Robin Hays Koehn and husband Gary of Caldwell, Ks., son Tracy Hays and wife Janet of Estes Park, Co.

Grandchildren, Terry Koehn, Nick Hays, Sherry Koehn, and Ben Hays, Great grandchildren Drake King and Annabella King, also her sister Patricia Coombes of Duluth, Mn.

Lots of nieces, nephews, cousins and a large extended family of "Hays" brother and sister in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her parents. loving husband Tommy, brother, Vernon "Bubby" O'Connor, sister Leona Cox, sister in-law Pauline Hays Stevens, and brother in-law Ivan Hays.

Following cremation private family services will be held.

Memorials may be given in memory of Barbara to Futures Unlimited or to the Wellington Humane Society.

Hi Robyn, so sorry to hear about your mother. Yes, she was a wonderful lady and will be missed. She was so funny at times, she always made me laugh when I would take my walks in Caldwell. I always stopped by if your parents were out in the yard when I took my walks. Your folks have left you with many great memories! Burt and I are thinking of all of you.

Love, Karen and Burt
