Dennis Struble, 75, of Caldwell, KS passed away Wednesday, August 11th at Rest Haven Care Home in Winfield, KS. He was born to Joseph H. and Emma (Fiene) Struble on April 6, 1946 in Anthony, KS. He was welcomed into the world by his big brother, Larry.
A lifetime resident of Caldwell, Dennis graduated from Caldwell High School in 1964 and went on to attend Cowley County Community College. After finishing at CCCC, he joined the US Army Reserve and continued to help his parents on the family farm north of Caldwell. Dennis had many jobs throughout his life but his favorites were farming and helping with the family business, Flop Over Trailers, Inc., where many types of farm equipment were designed and fabricated. Dennis came from a musically talented family and throughout his life played with many family members, friends and local bands. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid trapper and fur harvester. He was a founding member of the Caldwell Sportsman’s Club where he always enjoyed the annual Catfish Derby and, in later years, setting up a 3D Archery Course.
On May 23rd of 1975 Dennis married his wife of 45 years, Gayle Crawford. The couple moved into the family farm where they raised their four awesome kids - Mandy, Sandy, Carrie (his favorite) and Joe (the boy they always dreamed of). Dennis was gifted with his father’s ability and imagination to fabricate and many times this showed up in the form of fun and exciting new toys for the kids. Over the years he built them a Go Kart, Mini Bike, Zip Line and Sky High Tree House all of which led to hours of fun, a few dangerous stunts, excessive anxiety for Gayle but many great stories. Dennis loved camping and boating with his wife and kids. One of his treasured memories was spending a week with Gayle soaking up the beautiful scenery and wildlife of Alaska.
To Dennis and Gayle, family has always been a priority and they spent as much time as they could surrounded by their kids and grandkids. Most recently, the entire family traveled to Denver for a week of fun and storytelling with his brother, Larry, and his family. After retirement from the Sumner County Detention Center, Dennis kept busy by repairing clocks, another trade he learned from his father.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Gayle, of the home. Children Mandy (Stan) of Corbin, Sandy (Eric) of Caldwell, Carrie (Ben- the only one brave enough to put a ring on it) of Manhattan and Joe of Caldwell. His legacy leaves 9 Grandchildren- Maci (Luis), Paytn, Landon, Livia, Emma, Aisley, Precious, Isabella, Grady and one perfect Great Granddaughter Mila. Brother, Larry (Dorothy) of Colorado. Nieces Trina, Larisa and their spouses and children. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Emma Struble, in-laws, Monk and Marge Crawford and brother-in-law Mike Crawford.
Following cremation, private family services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Caldwell Sportsman's Club or to the Caldwell Care Network and sent in care of the mortuary.
