February 22, 1936 ~ July 17, 2014
Donald Eugene Warner was born Feb. 22, 1936 in Arkansas City , Kansas to John Carrol
Warner and Sylvia Alice (Wilson) Warner. He passed from this life on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Caldwell Hospital, in Caldwell, Kansas, with his wife and daughters at his side. He spent his first years in Arkansas City attending his first half of the first grade there. The family then moved to Palacious, Texas. When Don was in the third grade they returned to Arkansas City, where he attended the next four years of school. During this time he made his life long friend Wesley Hickey. The family then moved to Caldwell where Don went to school thru the eleventh grade, when Don joined the Army. He served in Germany and thought it was a beautiful country. After the Army he held many jobs. He worked in Wellington at a furniture factory, where he learned to reupholster furniture. He worked on a road crew building bridges, he worked on a dairy farm for Frank Phillips and on a cattle ranch in Wyoming.
He then got a job at the Farmers Co-op where he met Cheryl Conrady who was driving a wheat truck. Don and Cheryl were married August 21, 1965. To this union three children were born, Francine Danielle , Dawn Michelle, and Holly Jeanne. After the birth of his daughters he went to work for Plessey in Wellington for eight years. For their next adventure he and Cheryl bought and ran the Phillips 66 full service gas station in Caldwell. It was open from 7 am to 9 pm seven days a week. The girls grew up playing at the station and in “Jerry’s junkyard”, behind the station. After seven years they closed the station and Don went back to work at Plessey Welco.
Don always had a hobby. Some of his hobbies included photography and developing pictures in his own darkroom. He shot skeet, flew model airplanes and shot archery. He also raced his Chevy II at Arkansas City, bringing home a few trophies. Don always loved the outdoors and could name all the birds he saw. His favorites were the many hummingbirds that visited his well stocked feeders! He also loved watching the rabbits in the yard. He really loved fishing, taking his girls with him all the time. Holly remains an avid fisherwomen and Michelle loves the rivers and creeks.
His greatest joy in his last years were his grandsons: Matthew Lee Roth, Jacob Lawrence
Roth, Sanders Lee Roth, Robert Warren Roth, Joshua David Delain, Daniel August Delain, Brody Justus Perkins, and John Max Perkins, and great-grandson Kyler David DeLain. With all these boys, there was a lot of sports, gun and car talk going on. His girls could always come up with fishing stories to tell the boys with Grandpa.
Don is survived by his wife Cheryl of almost forty nine years, his daughters Dawn Michelle and husband Bob Roth and Holly Jeanne and husband Clyde Perkins all of Caldwell. Also, sisters Carolyn and husband Don Claypole and Donna Faye, and husband Terry Calloway both of Elk City, Oklahoma, and many nieces, nephews, and in laws.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Francine, brother John Junior and his parents.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Caldwell City Cemetery, Caldwell, KS.
Memorials may be given to the Sumner County Hospital District #1, Air Warrior Courage Foundation or to the Sumner County Humane Society.

To Cheryl and girls - please accept my sincere condolences in your loss. Don was smart, knowledgeable, and had a great deadpan sense of humor. I recall him regaling us with some pretty funny stories about our aunt and uncle. We also appreciate you and Don looking after them.

I remember Don, and Cheryl also, for the many kind and generous things they did for my Uncle Joe. Also, they were a great help to Jan and I after Joe's death.
Don was a man of great kindness and compassion; honest and unassuming. I consider it a privilege to have known him.
