On December 27, 2024, heaven gained a beautiful cowgirl. Donna Jean Stucky, 77, passed away at her home in South Haven, Kansas, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She was born the daughter of Harold and Margie Shoffner on November 23, 1947 in Blackwell, Oklahoma.
Donna grew up in Braman, Oklahoma and after graduating from Braman High School attended a year at Oklahoma State University. She found her love for horses, farming and livestock working alongside her father. She married Monte Eugene Stucky on February 7, 1970 and stayed in the area where they lived in Blackwell before settling in South Haven, Kansas. She worked for Conoco until 1975 when she came home to raise her family. Her days were spent supporting Monte on the farm, feeding and watering stocker cattle. She often told stories of bundling up the kids and traveling many miles to feed and break ice for the cattle in the winter. She eventually went back to work for Pfalzgraf Law Office and later worked 17 years for the City of Wellington, Kansas. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards with “the girls” and photographing her favorite things: livestock and grandchildren. Donna was an avid horsewoman and enjoyed breaking colts and doing the groundwork to prepare them for training. She never missed riding in the South Haven parade and loved carrying the mail horseback as part of the “Pony Express.”
Survivors include her children, TJ Stucky, Jamie Woods and husband Eric; grandchildren, Syra Stucky and Ty Woods.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 6:00 pm, at the South Haven Community Building. Boots and jeans are highly encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to the South Haven Fair Association and sent in care of the mortuary.
