July 14, 1951 ~ August 23, 2018
James Francis Patton, named after his paternal grandfather, was born July 14, 1951 in Wellington, Kansas to James E. and Lela M. McGrew Patton. Jimmy grew up in the North Star Community in Northern Grant County, Oklahoma. He attended Almony Grade School, District 21 until he graduated from the 8th grade. Jimmy then went to Deer Creek High School where he participated in football, 4-H and enjoyed Industrial Art classes. He graduated with the class of 1969. He spent two years at Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. While attending NOC, he assisted the industrial arts teacher teaching night adult welding classes. Jimmy attended Panhandle State College in Goodwell, Oklahoma for 1 year, before returning home to help his dad farm. He spent one year working at the Caldwell Coop.
Jimmy loved hunting and was especially fond of his Bluetick dogs. He always had a good story about his escapades during his outings. Usually there was a lot of embellishment in his recounting of what happened. Everyone knew they could get Jimmy wound up by speaking ill of his Shorthorns or International equipment. He thought everybody should embody the cowboy way of life.
His suffering came to an end on August 23, 2018. He had been diagnosed with a rare neurological disease called Muscular System Atrophy.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by sisters, Ruth Campbell and husband Steve of Hunter, Oklahoma and Lola Patton of Caldwell, Kansas. Nephews, Tim Campbell of North Enid, Oklahoma and Eldon Campbell, wife Jen and son Colton of Enid, Oklahoma; his dog Sport and horse Pistol.
In lieu of flowers or plants the family requests remembrance memorials may be made to the Caldwell Sportsman’s Club or to the Community Health Center in Wakita, Oklahoma and may be left in careof the mortuary.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Caldwell City Cemetery, Caldwell, Kansas.
