Jonothon Updike


Jonothon Earl Updike ascended into heaven on Monday, June 17, 2024 in Binger, Oklahoma. He was born on June 27, 1968 in Madison, Wisconsin to Ralph Laurel Updike and Linda Jane Massengill Updike. 

 

After his parent’s death, Jon and his brother, Kenneth Laurel Updike were raised by their aunt and uncle in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jon graduated from U.S. Grant H.S. in 1987. Jon served in the Oklahoma Air National Guard from 1991 to 1998. Jon found his passion for helping children as a special needs school bus driver. Jon received the honors of the Third Degree of the Knights of Columbus.

 

In 2003, Jon married Heather Jane Huntington, and their union was blessed with 2 daughters, Savannah Jane in 2003 and Annabeth Marie in 2007. 

 

Jon possessed a deep faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; brother, Kenneth Laurel Updike; uncle, Jack Nichols; aunt, Donna Massengill Reed; and cousin, Tonya Reed. 

 

He is survived by his daughters and their mother, Heather Walsh of Norman, Oklahoma; niece, Lauren Jayne Updike Bradley and her husband, Justin Bradley and their son, Ryker Bradley of Konowa, Oklahoma; aunts, Ruth Massengill Nichols of Oklahoma City and Joy Shoemaker and her husband, Buster of Orfordville, Wisconsin; uncles, Jimmie Leighty of Caldwell, Kansas, Lyle Updike and his wife, Wendy Kaplan of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Elmer Updike of Janesville, Wisconsin, and Clyde Updike of Orfordville, Wisconsin; and many cousins and their families. He loved all of his family and friends and they loved him in return. Jon was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

 

A huge Thank You to the kind and loving folks at Binger Nursing Home and Russell Murray Hospice for their wonderful caregiving over the last 4 years.

 

Memorial graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Caldwell City Cemetery, Caldwell, KS.
