Kenneth Henry

January 4, 1943 ~ October 27, 2014

Kenneth Lavern Henry was born as the only surviving triplet to Earl and Lucille Henry on January 4, 1943 at Snyder, Oklahoma and died October 27, 2014 at his home in Caldwell, Kansas. He graduated from high school at Mangum, Oklahoma in the class of 1961. During high school he was employed by M. E. Moses Variety Store chain in his home town.

In 1961 he was united in marriage to Carol Ball which later resulted in divorce. In 1963 he entered the Army and served in the 1st Battalion 245th Armor Division at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After his service he returned to work for M. E. Moses Co. and served as manager of various stores including Mangum, Borger, Texas and several of their stores in Dallas and Garland, Texas. He remained as their employee until 1977 when he moved to Caldwell, KS.

In Caldwell, he began working at Hospital District #1, first in maintenance and later as purchasing agent and did a little of everything around the hospital from which he retired in 2008.

In 1982, at the opening of the new Full Bushel Bar and Grill he served as head bartender and later filled the same position at the Last Chance Bar and Grill and the Watering Hole.

Kenneth was a long time Elvis fan and had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to pull pranks and practical jokes on unsuspecting friends. He also had a green thumb and enjoyed planting all sorts of exotic plants and vegetables. Christmas decorations were also a big hobby where he had the house and various bars bearing a blaze of lights.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Darrell and Donald.

He is survived by one sister, Glenda Newton (Dale), of Hobart, OK; two sisters-in-law, Jean Pence of Altus, OK and Donna Henry of Mabank, TX; a companion Richard Lowe of Caldwell, 2 nephews, a niece and many cousins and friends.

He will be missed by many here in Caldwell where he became an integral part of the community.

Memorials may be given in memory of Ken to the Ken Henry Scholarship Fund and left in care of the mortuary.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the Schaeffer Mortuary Chapel.

Ornery, sarcastic, opinionated and a once in a lifetime friend. From a greasy cheeseburger in paradise to "blue ocean water", I enjoyed every minute I shared with this man. Caldwell ,once again, lost a true treasure!!

Ken, you were one of a kind. Happy that I got to know you and you will always be my favorite "stalker". You and Aunt Pat can now catch up on the old jokes. And you are listening to Elvis in person. You will be missed.

I got to know Ken when I worked at Karl's and we had a running hello to each other since his middle name was Laverne. I enjoyed spending time talking with him, he was such a kind and gentle and funny man. Ken you will be missed more than you know.

Ken I really enjoyed working with you at the Caldwell Hospital, The practical joke you played on me buy having me put a Chocolate Pie in your face really backfired on me and everyone hated me and really made over you, I didn't see that coming. You are one of my favorites from the past. You will be missed.
