It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce that Marlin Theodore Dvorak passed away June 19th,, 2015 at home in Raytown MO surrounded by his family. Marlin was born June 19th, 1932 in Manchester OK to Bessie Caroline and Lawrence Theodore Dvorak. He grew up in Caldwell KS with is 3 brothers Robert L, Donald E and Rudolph W Dvorak. This is where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Veda Marie (Lafferty) Dvorak. They were blessed to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary on June 10th.
Marlin attended Southwestern College where he played football and earned his teaching degree in 1958. This was preceded by a 2 year break when he was called to serve his country in the Korean War. He taught in Conway Spring, KS and Caldwell KS but spent the majority of his professional career in Winfield KS teaching drivers education, aviation and coaching a variety of sports, finally retiring in 1992.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Bessie and brothers Robert and Don. Marlin is survived by his wife, Veda of Raytown MO, son Greg and wife, Melanie Dvorak of Wellington, KS, daughter, Gayla Cheadle and her husband, Eugene of Kansas City, MO and daughter, Michelle Schaffer and her husband, Terry of Raytown , MO, brother Rudy Dvorak and his wife Beryl of Caldwell; grandchildren, Travis Dvorak and his wife, Chloe, Theodore Dvorak, Jessica Volavka and her husband, Jody, Tyler Dvorak and his wife, Catrina, two foster granddaughters, Beaute Deh and Monique Bowah, twelve great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many precious friends, neighbors, students, and athletes.
In lieu of flowers - contributions may be made to Conway Springs High School, Caldwell High School, or the Winfield High School or Southwestern College athletic departments in his honor.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 23 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Schaeffer Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 24 at 10:00am at the Central Christian Church in Caldwell, KS, 206 North Market Street Caldwell Kansas 67022 with burial at the Caldwell City Cemetery.
A “Celebration of Life” Memorial service will also be held on June 27th at 2:00pm at First Christian Church of Raytown, MO 6108 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO 64133.
