Mary LaVetta Cochran


April 13, 1918 ~ July 14, 2013


Mary LaVetta Cochran was born April 13, 1918 to Dwight and Jewel Sparks in Grant County, Oklahoma. She graduated from high school in Caldwell, Kansas and later married Everett Perry Cochran in June 6, 1937 in Galva, Kansas. LaVetta and Everett made their home on a farm in Oklahoma, southeast of Caldwell, Kansas, where they raised their three children. They retired and moved to a home in Caldwell, Kansas in 1972, where they completed fifty-one years of married life until Everett’s death in 1988.


LaVetta heard and, accepted the Gospel of Jesus Christ in 1950 and lived her life to the fullest in the Lords way until her death. She quietly entered into rest July 14, 2013 in her daughter’s home in Elk City, Oklahoma, at the age of ninety-five.


She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Ross and Bruce and her sister LaVerne. She is survived by her daughter, Caren Storck and her husband Kenneth of Oklahoma City; her son J.E. Cochran and his wife Deborah of Caldwell, Kansas; her daughter Yvonne Harrington and her husband Doug of Elk City, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.


A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Schaeffer Mortuary Chapel, Caldwell, Kansas.


Memorials may be given in LaVettas' name to the Faith Hospice, Elk City, Oklahoma, Sumner County Hospital District #1 or to the Caldwell Fire Department.
