Norma Irene Shelton was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Bluff City, Kansas to Louis and Josephine (Turek) Walta. She passed away on Wednesday Nov. 24, 2021, just 23 days after her 90th birthday.
Norma attended school thru the eighth grade and then attended a country school before coming to Caldwell High School. Following school, she went to work renting out her boarding rooms and later managing the railroad motel across the street from her rooms. Norma slept during the day but was up working all night while everyone else was sleeping.
Her son Michael Laverne Shelton was born Dec. 6, 1951, and soon became the center of her life. Mike was killed in a motorcycle accident in April 1976 and Norma never got over that loss.
She was a quiet lady that loved all animals especially her dogs. Norma bought dog and cat food for others that couldn’t afford to feed their pets. In her later years, Norma had to enter a care facility and the only concern was for her pets. She wanted to know that they would be taken care of.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, son Mike and brother Dale Walta.
She is survived by her nephews and niece: Danny Walta, Deborah (Walta) Minor and Derek Walta; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Walta and Beverly Walta, other great nieces and nephews and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the Caldwell City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Norma's name to the CHS Alumni Association General Fund or to the Sunflower Cottage and sent in care of the mortuary.
