June 9, 1942 ~ May 29, 2014
Rachel Rae Downing Anton, 71, was peacefully called home Thursday night May 29, 2014 after a short battle with cancer at Marjorie’s Home in Garden Plain, Kansas.
Rachel was born the daughter of William Buell and Mary Lou (Rosotto) Downing on June 9, 1942 in Buffalo, Wyoming. She attended school in Wichita and Derby High School.
Rachel was united in marriage to Leonard Anton at Newkirk, Oklahoma on March 27, 1964.
Rachel was a generous, caring and compassionate person. She believed hard work was the way to get ahead in life and demonstrated that by starting to work at an early age and on past her retirement from Learjet/Bombardier. She had a gift of being able to talk to everyone and never knew a stranger. This was an asset as she and her late husband traveled around the state participating in craft shows selling their magnetic jewelry.
Rachel was an excellent mother, sister and a friend to all. She enjoyed many things in life but especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing card games or just visiting.
Rachel is preceded in death by her parents, William Buell Downing and Mary Lou Withers; husband, Leonard; parents-in-law, Frank and Mary Anton; brothers, Anthony Downing, Allen Downing; brother-in-law Joseph Anton and granddaughter Amanda Rausch.
She is survived by her daughters, Tina (Chris Bocanegra) Forest of Wichita, Kansas, Ronda (Dwight) Mollenkamp of Garden Plain, Kansas, Linda (Randy) Rausch of Cheney, Kansas; two step-daughters Mauritta Adams of Holcomb, Kansas and Frankie Anton of Garden City, Kansas. Twelve grand children, five step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and thirteen step great- grandchildren; sister Vera Burton of Atlanta, Kansas; brother James (Marsha) Downing of Wichita, Kansas, David (Jean) Downing of Aurora, Colorado; sister-in-law Rosanna Anton of Caldwell, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday with Mass following at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014, both at St. John's Catholic Church, Clonmel, Kansas. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Czechoslovakian Cemetery, Caldwell, Kansas.
Memorials may be given to the Heartland Hospice or to the Czechoslovakian Cemetery, Caldwell.
