COURTSEY NOTICE
Velda F. Peterson, 90, formerly of Maize, died March 4, 2025, at Hospice House, with her three children by her side. She was born February 22, 1935, in rural Butler County, to Fred and Lura (Albright) Whitted.
Velda graduated from Potwin High School in 1953. She worked various jobs to support her three children, but her most gratifying job was working as a secretary for the Maize school district. Velda enjoyed crocheting and was an avid reader. Starting at the age of 12, she played the piano and organ for church services. Velda continued to play for church, until age 85. Every week, she would send close to 30 cards to her family and friends, either for a special occasion or to just encourage someone who might be going through the valleys of life. On February 22, 2025, Velda was blessed to celebrate her 90th birthday with over 80 family and friends. She was a member of Bethany Nazarene Church, Hutchinson.
On April 12, 1968, she married Marvin L. Peterson. He died July 20, 2008, after they shared over 40 years of marriage.
Velda is survived by: children, Jan McDaniel of Hutchinson, Diane Friesen (Stan) of Honeoye, NY, and Douglas Hoffine (Sue) of New Smyrna Beach, FL; stepdaughter, Karen Castillo; grandchildren, Shelly, Monica, Heidi, Sophia, and Dustin; great-grandchildren, Alex, Abi, Hannah, Theo, Quincy, James, Anya, and Finn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; siblings, Mildred Kramer, Marvin Whitted, Berton Whitted, Glen Whitted, Roland Whitted, Dale Whitted, and Curtis Whitted; and stepdaughter, Brenda Treat.
Friends may call from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2025 with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.
Graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Walnut Valley Memorial Park, 725 Boyer Road, El Dorado. Memorial service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Bethany Nazarene Church, Pleasant View Home, Inman, or Hospice House, Hutchinson, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
