Schaeffer Mortuary provides a wide selection of caskets and outer burial containers.
We carry both metal and wood caskets. Metal caskets may be constructed of Bronze, Copper, Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel which comes in 16, 18, & 20 gauge. The heaviest carbon steel casket is the 16 gauge with the lightest being 20 gauge.
Pecan, Mahogany, Cherry, Oak, Hickory, Walnut, Pine, Poplar and Ash are used in the construction of wood caskets.
Most cemeteries require the casket to be placed in an outer burial container, or vault, which serves a dual purpose. The vault supports the weight of the earth over the grave and helps to prevent future settling of the grave. Also, the vault will protect the casket from the elements of the earth and weather.
